Ferran Torres Could Leave Barcelona for PSG This Summer

Ferran Torres linked with a possible transfer from Barcelona to PSG.
Ferran Torres has emerged as a reported transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Less than two weeks after scoring the winning goal that helped Spain win the World Cup, Ferran Torres may be on the verge of leaving the club where he plays every week. Paris Saint-Germain have put Torres atop their transfer list, and according to reports out of Spain and France, he is on the cusp of leaving Barcelona to join PSG. Here's what we know and don't know about the story.

PSG Make Ferran Torres Their Top Transfer Target

Torres is in the last season of his Barcelona contract, which expires in June 2027. Barcelona were planning on sitting down with him after the World Cup and discussing a new contract. As per various reports, that meeting never took place because Barcelona's financial position prevents them from offering him a new contract until September.

That has opened the floodgates, as sources familiar with the story are saying that Barcelona have now offered to let Torres go this summer rather than run the risk of losing him for free when his contract expires next year.

PSG Target Torres as Luis Enrique Eyes Attack Boost

PSG have shown interest in Torres before, but their interest now has an extra element to it because of Luis Enrique. Torres' former Spain manager and now PSG boss, has reportedly had direct conversations with Torres, promising him a starting role off the bench, probably as a replacement for Ousmane Dembélé.

Luis Enrique's connection with Ferran Torres could influence PSG's interest in the Barcelona forward.

Those discussions seem to be paying off, as people close to Torres say that he seems more and more inclined towards the move.

Publicly, Torres is a bit more restrained. When asked about the rumour this week, he simply said that he has a contract until 2027, but "you never know what can happen.

Barcelona and PSG Prepare for Transfer Talks

The difference is important, because an official offer hasn't arrived yet. What has happened is personal discussions between PSG and Torres's representatives. This is expected to change soon – Spanish media report that Barcelona and PSG are set for official talks this week. Barcelona reportedly value Torres at around €50 million, but PSG think that price is steep for a player who still has a year left on his deal – that is roughly what they have paid Manchester City for Torres back in 2021.

Ferran Torres facing uncertainty over his Barcelona future.
Barcelona's contract situation has created uncertainty around Ferran Torres' future.

PSG need a forward at the moment for a couple of reasons – Gonçalo Ramos has left for AC Milan, Lee Kang-in is on his way to Atlético Madrid, and Paris may lose another striker or two before the transfer window closes. Torres can play centrally and on the wings, so he addresses multiple needs simultaneously.

For Barcelona, meanwhile, it is Torres's presence among their strikers that is causing the problem – they have lost Robert Lewandowski. Since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021, Torres has scored 65 goals in 207 games and won seven trophies at Camp Nou.

Besides PSG, Tottenham have tried to get in touch with Torres, while Arsenal are keeping a watchful eye, mostly because of Mikel Arteta's history with the player at Manchester City. Neither is currently close to PSG's offer.

Barcelona are expecting to have some kind of answer within days from both PSG and Torres himself.
