West Bengal Woman Allegedly Detained and Pushed Across Border Into Bangladesh

A West Bengal woman who had been living in Navi Mumbai with her family for nearly two decades allegedly faced a harrowing ordeal after being detained by police on suspicion of being an “illegal Bangladeshi infiltrator.”

According to sources, Shaheda Fakir, a resident of West Bengal, was detained on July 18. She was subsequently taken to Assam, where she was allegedly part of a group that was forcibly “pushed back” across the border into Bangladesh.

After crossing into Bangladesh, Fakir reportedly managed to find shelter at a house in Satkhira. From there, she was eventually able to establish contact with her family in India and inform them of her whereabouts.

Fakir’s family is now seeking information about her status and the circumstances surrounding her detention and transfer. The incident also comes amid heightened scrutiny over illegal immigration, citizenship documentation and alleged pushbacks along India’s eastern border.
