NASA Invites ISRO to Join Moon Base Programme, Deepening India-US Space Partnership

NASA is developing a phased programme for a sustained human presence on the Moon.

In a significant move to deepen India-US cooperation in space exploration, NASA has invited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to join its Moon Base programme, a recently launched initiative aimed at returning humans to the Moon and eventually establishing a permanent human presence there.

The offer was disclosed on Tuesday, August 11, following the ninth meeting of the India-US Civil Space Joint Working Group, held in Bengaluru on August 5 and 6.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also addressed the meeting, which focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries in civil space activities and advancing joint initiatives in space exploration.

NASA and ISRO are expanding cooperation in lunar exploration and civil space activities.

NASA's invitation comes as the United States steps up efforts to develop the technological and logistical capabilities required for sustained human operations on the Moon.
