Dennis Schröder is on the move again. The Charlotte Hornets have acquired the veteran point guard and cash from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for guard Tre Mann, sending the 32-year-old to his 12th NBA team in his career.

This is the ninth time that Schröder has been traded, trailing only Trevor Ariza in total trades in NBA history at 11. Schröder will have played for fewer teams than just Ish Smith's 13 in his career thus far. With Garrett Temple having retired this offseason, Schröder is now the active leader in terms of number of teams he's played for.

The latest trade marks another hectic spell in the career of the German guard. Brooklyn, Golden State, Detroit, Sacramento, and Cleveland have all been among the teams that he has been rostered with over the course of the last two seasons alone. Meanwhile, Charlotte is set to become his sixth different destination during this period, with Cleveland reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in his recent stint there.

Why Cleveland Traded Dennis Schröder

For the Cavaliers, the trade is purely financial. Getting rid of Schröder's salary (the guard is owed $14.8 million for the current season), helps the Cavs free up even more space under the luxury tax line, giving them extra leeway in making other roster transactions. In exchange, Charlotte acquired an experienced guard to pair with their starting point guard Coby White, who took the lead role with the Hornets after they dealt their star LaMelo Ball to Minnesota this offseason.

What Dennis Schröder Brings to Charlotte

Schröder was happy to get out of what has proved to be a crowded backcourt in Cleveland. He told the German outlet Braunschweiger Zeitung that sharing the court with two ball-dominant stars in Donovan Mitchell and James Harden has made things complicated there, and that moving to Charlotte was "better for me."

Schröder is entering his 14th NBA season now. Last year he averaged 10.8 points and 4.9 assists in stints with Sacramento and Cleveland, continuing his streak of playing no less than 60 games per season in the league over the last 12 seasons.
